Coho were extirpated from the middle reach of the Columbia River in the early-1990s. The reintroduction of coho in the middle and upper Columbia River Basin has been dependent on releases of hatchery-origin coho. The Yakama Nation’s reintroduction program initially depended on broodfish from the Lower Columbia River; however, the program now only uses in-basin, locally adapted broodstock.
